5th Grade - Room 13 (Mr. Ashworth)

Mr. Ashworth

My name is Mr. Ashworth and I am a San Diego native who attended Santa Fe Christian High School in Solana Beach and graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University. I received my BCLAD multiple subject teaching credential and Masters in Administration from National University. I have been a TK-12 grade educator in San Diego Unified for the past 20 years. Teaching at various schools including Zamorano, Millennial Tech Middle School, Bird Rock Elementary, Madison HS, and Washington Elementary STEAM Magnet.  I am also a lead elementary instructor for PLTW (Project Lead The Way). This is a nationally recognized TK-12 STEM curriculum.

My previous careers included working with local businesses in sales and marketing and construction. This background has helped me specialize in hands-on learning and STEAM education. My classes focus on guiding students to solve real-world problems using STEAM. This includes teaching the students the Engineering Design Process and NGSS (Next Generation Science, Technology and Engineering) standards to address real-world issues and provide solutions.
My classes will focus on teamwork, hand-on learning, and using technology as a platform for research and presentation. I love teaching 5th grade! One reason is I taught Middle School for 6 years at a STEM Magnet. This has helped me prepare my 5th-grade students for the middle school journey ahead.

My hobbies include surfing, fishing, and riding my bike. I have a son who is a police officer in Alabama and my wife is also an educator. We have two wonderful labrador puppies who keep us busy when we are not teaching.
I have provided some links below which will provide you with some more information; including my google classroom.
